May 04

It was my last few days of the training camp, and to be honest I'm looking forward to getting back to my full time training base of Loughborough.

The last few days don't change and Nick has put in a tough session on our last training day, the day prior to flying home.

The week started normally and I had a grass session on Tuesday. We trained early, as we wanted to go to 6 Flags theme park for the rest of the day. We had a rest day on Wednesday so we thought we'd spend the afternoon on roller coasters! It was great craic and was nice to get away from the track, even if it did lash down with rain!

Our final rest day on Wednesday was spent doing the last of the shopping. Not as good as other years as the exchange rate isn't as favorable, but I had strict orders to pick up a few things from Abercrombie, the stuff the women are mad for at home!

The big news on Wednesday was of American 400m star LaShawn Merritt failing a drug test. Merritt is the reigning Olympic and World champion. He won the world championships last year in Berlin when I finished sixth. I raced him a number of times over the last few years.

To be honest I'm shocked, I didn't think he was a cheat. He is world and Olympic champ so he would have been drug tested so many times. I get nervous any time I go and buy something in the chemist; I'm straight on the phone to the doctor to make sure it's ok!! Merritt is not that naive just to take some over the counter drug and not check it out!

My view is that those male enhancement drugs can act as a masking agent, basically cover up the other stuff he was taking.

I just can't believe I was shaking this guys hand throughout the summer!! You try not to be cynical and think that all the top top athletes are on drugs, but then this happens and makes you wonder.

It's not good for the sport of athletics, but at least the drug officials are closing in on the athletes who want to break the rules! It will be interesting what the outcome is and whether he will get the full 2-year ban for a drug offense.

I finished off the camp with a tough session on Thursday. I had 2 x 300m with full recovery, which meant they had to be fast. I was a little nervous before the session, as I want to finish off the camp with a good workout. My first run was good, but I wasn't happy with it, I felt I was a bit lazy over the first 150m. As Nick said, "just as well you have a second run"

My second and last run, was a lot lot better, I just ran...hard! This rep was a lot quicker than the first run and I was happy.

I had that feeling self-satisfaction and felt I had got the best out of myself.

Now get home and get ready for the upcoming season!!
