Back in the bubble of Loughborough and the jet lag is killing me!
Landed into Heathrow and my girlfriend Charlotte was there to pick me up. Was great to see her and a lift back up to Loughborough was exactly what I needed as getting a 3 hour train journey with 3 bags of luggage was not what I fancied!
So back in Loughborough and to be honest its good to be back. I like my routine of the way I do things and what I like about Loughborough is that everything is in easy distance; the track, the gym, my physio and my support team of nutritionists, strength and conditioning coach and physical therapist Mark Edwards.
I enjoyed my time out in LA but I'm happy now to be back in my training base. I have traveled a lot already this year; training camp in South Africa in January, World Indoor Championships in Qatar in March and then LA for 5 weeks. So its good to be staying put in the one place for a while. It is also nice that the weather is getting better and its looks a lot greener!! Fingers crossed the summer will be warm...
Its an easy training week, getting over the jet lag is the priority. They say it is worse traveling east and I think it is true. The first few nights my body didn't know what time it was. It took me ages to fall asleep and then I was awake throughout the night, but at around 6 am I'd fall asleep, madness!! By Wednesday I was beginning to get into a usual sleep pattern, but was still feeling tired in the morning. Just as well we had an easy training week!
Having been back a week Nick gave us a tough enough session for Saturday morning 3 x 450m. Yes, I race over 400m, so 450m is a long way. My nutritionist Martin got married on Friday so I was at the afters of the wedding, good fun but I couldn't really let my hair down knowing I had a tough session first thing in the morning. Part of being an athlete I suppose, you always have to make sure things don't get in the way of training sessions. I train with a good group of athletes and I don't want to be falling behind because I was on the beer the night before!
I was tired on Saturday morning, but enjoyed the previous night, got to have a normal life now and again. Session was tough but good. We had 3 runs, so we took it in turns to lead each run, Nick will give us target times and he will shout every 100 metres so we know we are getting the pace right. We all worked well and finished the session with are fastest run.
It was a tough session, but we ran faster than our target times, which is always good.
The rest of my weekend was spent up in Durham with Charlotte's family. Always good fun and it is in the countryside, so its ideal for just chilling out and relaxing. An added bonus is the home cooking, Charlotte's mum can cook and man its good stuff, I just sit there and eat, and be polite of course!!
