I just want to race by this stage of the year! It's been a long hard slog since I started training for the 2010 season back in October. 6 days a week for the last 8 months. I've trained hard through out and I feel I'm now ready to just get out and race. I still have a few weeks left of preparation but it's a good feeling when you are looking forward to racing...I'm hungry!
My week was hard, 3 tough running sessions. Tuesday session was a strenuous 450, 350, 250 off 8 minutes recovery. 450 is a long way, and when you have a gale blowing into your face, it just makes it harder. We all worked well, and it was a hard session, and my legs felt it afterwards. I was happy with the work, felt I ran controlled and we were all trying to perfect our technique up the last 100m!
In the gym on Wednesday and this year I have being doing a lot more squats. Working my glutes and hamstrings will hopefully help improve my speed, and to be fair I think it's going quite well at the moment. At times I feel my hamstrings have grown, these massive chunks of flesh hanging off my legs...ok maybe not massive!!
Back on the grass for a fast 2 sets of 3 x 25 seconds runs. Sounds short, but everyone was out for this session, even the sun was out. We hit them hard, covering good ground on each rep. We only 3 minutes recovery between the runs, by the last rep my good friend "lactic" was back!!
Got blood test done on Friday morning. I get bloods done every 8 weeks, make sure everything is good and it will also give me an advanced warning if any illness is on the horizon... no stone left unturned!
Saturday morning, last session of the week, and I couldn't wait for the weekend, all I wanted to do was sit on my backside and do nothing. First, I had a big session I wanted to do well. 2 sets of 200, 1-minute recovery, 100 metres. Tough, but it is over quickly. I did it well out in LA, so I wanted to do the same here in Loughborough. Weather was good, windy, but I was running the 200 with the wind. Hit both hard, running fast but staying relaxed, both 200 were quick. The 100 is really hard, that first 10 metres my legs feel like tree trunks. Once you get the momentum, just drive; pump arms and legs like mad.
Overall, a great session for me and I was delighted. Nick was really happy too, so once he's happy it's all-good!
On the sofa for the weekend. I don't know when Ill have a free weekend next, so I'm making the most of now.
Watched the documentary on Bolt, I though it was good. Had to laugh at him showing up 2 hours late for training!! The other thing is what he said about moving up to 400m, "the training is too hard"...ill take that as respect from the big man!!
