A long week. It started with a serious training session on Tuesday morning, 2 race pace runs over 350 metres and 250 metres. Full recovery between the runs, so it's all about quality. Because it's a big session I was a little nervous, but its good because it's the same before a race so its good race preparation, and nerves are a good thing, they show you care about what you do!!
The session went really well for me and adds to my confidence. I was happy with the times I ran and the manner in which I executed my run...relaxed and let it flow.
Had my heavy weights session of the week on Wednesday. I was racing last Sunday so heavy lifting on Wednesday would give me plenty of time to recover.
Sunday's competition was the Loughborough International, a team competition between Loughborough Uni, England, Scotland, Wales and GB Juniors. I represented Loughborough in the 200m and the 4x400 relay.
The meeting was on my training track, so was nice to be able to go down on Thursday and do block work in the lane I was to be racing in on Sunday. It also helps when your coach is the meeting director, so you can basically pick what lane you want.
Friday was just activation weights in the gym, short and fast keeping the weight light. Move quick and explosive.
Time now to just chill out and rest. Work is done, nothing more can be done. It was annoying on Saturday with the weather so nice, can't really do much with a race the next day, hottest day of the year and I have to sit in the house!
But, the weather was great on Sunday and that makes the competition a lot better. Had a lie in, got out of bed about 10am and had my normal breakfast, porridge and protein shake. Then just chilled out watched "A league of their own" on sky1, makes me laugh.
A light lunch, just a small bit of pasta and protein shake. I keep my food on race day light and easy, and with nerves etc you're not really that hungry.
Arrived at the track early, wanted to chill out there, get the ipod on and relax. Started my warm up an hour 20min before my race, same warm up as I do when im training.
Then we were called and led out on the track. Lane 5, good lane in the middle.
I got out really well over the first 10 metres, but just tightened up a little and then relaxed and came through at the end to finish 3rd. I wasn't too happy, I didn't flow as I would have like, but time was ok and it's a lot better than last year. So overall happy enough.... but I hate 200's give me a 400 now. I'm ready to be unleashed!!!!
