On Monday, the day after the meeting in Loughborough I woke up and my legs were tight and I was tired. I took caffeine before I raced on Sunday to give me a lift and I couldn't get asleep as a result. So I was tired! But we had a very light training day, just aqua jogging in the pool. The weather was good, so I Monday afternoon was spent on the hammock!
That was the theme for the early part of the week, recovery. Tuesday and Wednesday session were on the light side. The workload is easing slightly and gearing towards race preparation.
I was still feeling a tired and my legs were tired. Tuesday after training I got an hour-long massage from Mark Edwards. I get a deep tissue massage every week from Mark. As I train 6 days a week its very important to help the body recover, and a massage will help prevent injures. It is an integral part of any athletes training. Your health is your wealth in this game!
On Thursday I was on the track, a fast session of 3x50m, 2x100, 1x150. I felt fine warming up, a light tight but nothing out of the ordinary. Got to the 150m and just coming off the bend into the straight, I just felt a little bite on my hamstring. I stopped straight away, I heard nick shout "F&^K".
I got some ice on it, I knew it wasn't a pull or a tear because I was able to walk and stretch, also that I stopped running, it wasn't like I was shot by a sniper and jumped 10 foot in the air.
I then headed to my physio Jo, I didn't have an appointment with her but she helped me out and had a look. She said there was no muscular damage and basically my hamstring just over worked. "Have a few easy days and you'll be fine".
I took her advice. I was annoyed about it, I felt my body had been telling me to give it a rest and I didn't listen. It could have been much much worse and this was my body just saying "the season is starting, id like a day or two of rest before we kick off. The hard work is done".
You have got to have a positive out look on these things. The hamstring is nothing major, I was back on the bike on Saturday and all was ok.
I start racing in Morocco next weekend, im ready, my body is ready. I have trained hard for the last 8 months, the work is done! Run at your fear and run over it!!!
The remainder of the weekend was spent with my girlfriend's family. I just sat on my backside resting. Didn't have to lift a hand, I was fed and watered. Yes Keith and Gordon.... your food was amazing; don't worry, it has been duly noted! Compliments to the chef!!!!!!!!
