A frustrating week. I was hoping to be OK after my hamstring strain from last week, but with these things you have to give them the time they need.

I was able to jog on Monday but my hamstring was still abit tight and I was unable to stride out. This was the case for a few days. I was in with my physio Jo, every day.

During this time I just try and make sure I'm doing everything right to help recovery, I was still hoping to race in Morocco on Sunday. So I would ice bath every day, hopping from ice bath to the hot tub, then rub some anti-inflammatory gel into the hamstring and then compress it with some tape. My physio also gave me some exercise's to help strengthen the hamstring.

I was able to do some weights on the leg and Nick had given me both a bike session and aqua jogging sessions to help keep me ticking over and also keeping the weight off the leg.

On Wednesday I as back in with Jo. She wanted to ultra sound my leg, which would show up anything in my hamstring. This would also tell us if I should race on Sunday or not. Unfortunately for me it showed up a little bit of damage, nothing serious, a minor strain. But the thing is that it is so early in the season and it is all about the end of July, the European Champ's, im not willing to risk anything, so why run in Morocco on Sunday. Best to get it right, let it recover and ill be right as rain in a few days!!

On Thursday morning I was again back in with Jo in the morning, she massaged the hamstring and then stuck a few needles into it and hooked me up to a small electric divice that sends electric pulses down the needles into my leg. I have had it done before and found it really helps and my body responses well to it.

I was on the track after physio down drills and jogging, and then did a bike session.

I was a little down about pulling out of a race, but you have to look at the bigger picture, luckily for me it wasn't serious and on Friday I was on the track jogging and striding. The hamstring felt a lot better, the best its felt all week and was feeling positive.

I did the same on Saturday morning, jog the bend, stride the straight, jog and walk for 4 laps. Each stride I tried to open up more and run quicker. Didn't feel the hammy at all.

Sunday was in the gym doing some explosive work and again the leg felt good.

So all in all, it's looking good for next week in Rome. I can't wait to run and these little set back are all part of sport. To be honest I think it's my body just letting me have a few days rest before we go. The hard work is done by this stage and 2 days of rest wont change a thing.

Bring it!!
