The week got under way with a session on Monday morning to decide if my hamstring was ok to race on in Rome on Thursday. I hadn't done any full out running on it, so I was a little nervous.

I had 2x250m, and it went really well. The time's I ran were good and most of all, my hamstring was completely fine!

After pulling out of Rabat the previous Sunday due to my hamstring strain, the big wigs at Rome said "let us know on Monday if you are able to run". Nick rang them after my training session and said "Yeah Gillick is ready to rock"...the reply he got was "oh we have given his lane away".

So I was a little annoyed over that, was looking forward to it, but what can you do. Luckily there was a small meet in Geneva on Saturday, so decided I will go there. I really wanted to get a race in this week.

I had to jig my training around a little because of the change in plans, but everything went smoothly over the next few days.

On Thursday I sat on the sofa and watched the 400m in the Diamond League from Rome. If I had off raced, I reckon I would have been in lanes 7, 8 or 9.

As the race got under way, the 3 guys in the outsides lanes (7 8, 9) got taken out of the race by a TV camera boom!! I couldn't believe it. One guy had to run on the grass verge on the outside to avoid get polaxed, while the out two just stopped dead!! Madness!

For me, a blessing in disguise!! If I was there I would have got taken out by a camera.... That would have made a good read in my blog!!!!

So on to Geneva. 2nd - 45.32

It's always good to get the first race of the season under my belt. Felt good and strong and was nice and relaxed down the back straight, but at the same time a little rusty in parts, particularly around the top bend from 150 to 100m. More to come.

Overall I'm happy with the time, good solid opening and im looking forward to my next race in Budapest this Saturday.

Onwards we go!!
