Arrived back from Budapest on Monday evening into the arms of my excited girlfriend who's birthday it was.... she wasn't excited to see me, she just wanted her present.
No race planned this week, mainly due to a serious lack of meetings around Europe and also a lack of 400 metre races. Personally I think the new format of Diamond League is not good for general athletics. The diamond league had 14 meetings but only 7 400m.Anyway, I don't really mind, as I know I can run well off training and I have 3 meets lined up in the coming weeks.
This week gives me an opportunity to regroup and put in some hard training.
Wednesday was a tough session and it was hot. I had a spilt 600m and a split 400m, spilt meaning run 200, 90 seconds, 200 etc. Nick gave me targets and I nailed them, running well inside them. We wanted it to be a quality session, so I had full recovery between the 600 and 400. The targets for the 400 were a good bit quicker than that of the 600. I tried to run fast but relax and it paid off, my 400 was inside target times. Overall a very good session, a confidence builder, one of best. Not only was I running fast but also my technique was good, I was moving relaxed, free flowing.
I was shattered after the session, had an ice bath and then had Pilates. Wanted to get everything done in the morning so I could go watch the England game in the afternoon. Don't worry; just because I live in England, it hasn't made me an En-ger-land supporter!!
On Friday I was in the gym, Pete my strength coach had given me a tough session because I wasn't racing over the weekend. I looked at it and thought, "Is he having a laugh". He put a serious combination of cleans together, I was worried, I hadn't lifted heavy in a while. Cracked on with it anyway, and to my surprise I lifted a personal best.120kgs, I was delighted!! Technique wise, it was one of my best lifts ever, the bar just shot up, I nearly took my head off!!
Saturday I was on the grass. I was lovely, the weather was amazing. I had 3 fast up slopes. I was tough, only 3 runs but I was hitting them fast.
As I had a weekend off, Charlotte and I went to Chatsworth House, a big manor house with nice gardens, to just chill out and enjoy the weather. I was great to just relax. Saturday night was spent screaming at the TV, I got the film paranormal activity out.... wow I could have done with a nappy!! I had to watch the news for a good 30 minutes after to tell myself that the film wasn't real!!!
Sat on my backside on Sunday and watched my group compete in the British Champs, was strange to watch people I know race, I felt like I should be racing!! Hungry!
